Nomadic Beekeeping
Nomadic beekeeping in Greece unfolds as beekeepers guide their beehives across diverse regions to benefit from optimal flowering areas. This method involves spending nearly 250 days on the road annually, with beekeepers transporting thousands of bees in trucks.
Situated in Messinia, Peloponnese, the journey takes the bees from their home base to destinations such as the orchards of Veria, pine forests on Thasos, thyme-rich foothills near ancient Delphi, and oak-filled forests in Evrytania. Harvesting occurs multiple times throughout the season, concluding with the bees returning to Messinia by November. This nomadic approach highlights the biodiversity of Greece's landscapes, resulting in a diverse range of honey.
